Citing a desire to increase public communications, police training and overall safety, Langley Chief of Police Tavier Wasser, a long time resident of Island County, announced his campaign to run for Island County Sheriff this fall.

“I came back to Island County to protect the communities that protected me. Residents deserve to have the best trained, most accountable and most transparent sheriff’s deputies protecting them. If elected I plan to lead the sheriff’s office with those goals in mind.” said Tavier Wasser.

A graduate of South Whidbey High School, Tavier Wasser enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and was selected to serve as a Presidential Security Marine. During his 8 year tenure, he managed 200 Marines tasked with presidential and asset security across the globe. In 2015, Tavier joined the Island County Sheriff’s Office. During Tavier’s tenure, he achieved a Master-level certification in Crisis and Hostage Negotiation. Tavier’s expertise and understanding of security operations led him to be appointed as a Field Training Officer for multiple agencies, helping to strengthen law enforcement's next generation of peace officers.

In 2022, Tavier Wasser was appointed as Chief of Police for the City of Langley. During his time as Chief of Police, Tavier has created and implemented the department’s first policy manual to make them more accountable to the public, modernized the department assets, and created access to mental health support.

Tavier Wasser has a four point plan to enhance and strengthen the Island County Sheriff’s Office. “We have to increase deputy training, have better communication with residents, improve our mental health support systems and increase our victim advocacy to make the Sheriff’s department work better for everyone,” said Wasser.
